Purple and pink
And yellow and green
Were the colors you wore
From princess to queen
Now a flower that’s bloomed
You’re clay off the wheel
From little baby shoes
To the woman revealed
You’re pure but not simple
You’ve seen crooked and straight
But from broccoli to braids
Look what God can create

And I know
When I turn the key
There you’ll be
Someone beautiful
Waiting behind the door
Someone beautiful
Dancing across the floor
From your first steps
Through every twirl
You’ve changed my world
I never sang before
I sang Sunshine with you
But for my little Batgirl
There’s nothing I won’t do
With your hand in mine
We’ve walked miles and miles
And we’ve laughed so hard
I’ll never lose this smile

And you showed me how spirit
Can live with some fear
Now I’m strong but breakable
From having you so near
And I know
When I turn the key
There you’ll be
Someone beautiful
Waiting behind the door
Someone beautiful
Dancing across the floor
From your first steps
Through every twirl
You’ve changed my world

And one day some boy will get the chance
To have his world changed too
When he turns the key I know he’ll see
Someone beautiful, because he’ll see you

Lovely tribute to a beautiful young woman. This week Friday we drop Sydney off at Western for her freshman year. She’s literally our Belle, the lead in this year’s musical. Beauty and the Beast. Sunday we move our Emily, a junior, into a storage shed between apartments at U of M. Our Anna has one more semester at the community college in Traverse City; then onto Marquette and Northern.
This is a time for all parents of love, pride and sadness.
Your Julia is beautiful.

Nice thoughts Dennis. The years do go by all too quick. This is a writing piece you both will cherish for years to come! From a writing perspective, I liked the repetition of certain stanzas.
